Airdrie House Tour

1. Entrance Hall - Carol McBride

General Introduction to the house: old part about 1720, owned by Quakers who sold it to Misss Robinson’s grandfather who built the Victorian wing on the house around 1865. The furniture in the house dates closer to the late 19th century. It is the Italianate villa style popular for country houses in the mid-19th century. Grill work on the outisde is quite fine and probably local. Mr. Biddle or Mr. Robinson had a racing tract behind the house towards the valley where the RR track are now, he raised the race horses in the stable outside. There was a tennis court, grape arbor and sucken garden to the side of the house near the stable. All the land surrounding the present house, up to Paoli station on both sides of North Valley Road belonged to the estate. The name Airdrie was taken from the ancestral home in Scotland. As you will be able to tell from the furnishings the Biddles and Robinsons traveled a great deal all over the world.

2. Little Dining Room - Cathy Ford

Table and chairs - about 1820 - 35, chairs Philadelphia, table Philadelphia or New York in the English regency style of that period.

3. Little Palor - Eleanor Fulweller

Books - quite old, some first editions.

4. Big Palor - Betsy Gilpin (black dress)

Now in the 1866 wing of the house.

5. Dining Room - Mitsie Toland (white dress)

Can use window to show where the old race track was.

6. Hall and Stairs - Mrs. C. C. Wilson

Pitcher - 18th century

7. Upstairs - Jane Kline (blue dress)

There are three bedrooms on this floor and one bathroom

8. Bedroom Old House - Mary Louise Jacobs

Small bedroom on the right as passed by. This room mostly styled in Italianate revival, except for the fine chest which is federal period, it is 18th century Pennsylvania chest, high chest.

9. Upstairs Palor - Mrs. LeBoutillier

Mirror over desk is federal period of 1810 or 20 painted glass above and quite nice.

10. Bedroom Top of the Stairs - Mrs. Richard Orser

Chest which converts into desk as in the previous room.
