The Record, Sat. Mar. 19, 1887 - Page 4

Another installment of Mr. Sachse's "tales of Wayside Inns," will be found in to-day's Village Record and is a charming contribution to the early history of this community telling so graphically the life and habits of our people half a century or more ago. The country inn seems doomed to extinction in these days of steam unless as in England the fashion of bicycling and walking springs up, causing the revival of the roadside resorts where travelers can obtain refreshments and places to sleep. Those were lively times that Mr. Sachse tells of when the old Spread Eagle opened its hospitable doors to the crowded pike, but the fact that the building has "Indian School" inscribed over its doorway in place of the old sign tells of glories departed even more than the inscription of Ichabod. Even the old name will soon be forgotten for the post office and railroad station are now called Strafford.
