I well remember William Siter when he kept the old hostelrie at the Spread Eagle hotel, and was often at his place when the Good Intent line of stages ran on the Lancaster pike and the Fort Pitt teams drawn by six or seven horses, all bell teams, traveled the old causeway, and have often counted twenty teams in succession passing through West Chester. In those days hundreds of fat bullocks, sheep and swine passed through, occassionally supplemented by a drove of 300 turkeys by way of variety. Document History
