| Thomas Cummings, in his 16th year, was induced to dive into the Schuylkill river at Market street. It is supposed that he struck against some of the debris of the old bridge, for he rose out of the water with a severe gash in the top of his head. Through the kindness of Mr. Simes, Twenty-second and Market streets, where he was taken, the wound was dressed, and he came home apparently suffering very little. He was placed under medical care, and every effort made to relieve him and heal the wound, nothwithstanding the faithful nursing which he received, he died. He was buried at the Woodlands. |
